Project Description
Savile Row with a rock star twist
GRESHAM BLAKE
Gresham Blake is a design led tailoring business and ready-to-wear clothing brand, creating bespoke, made to measure & limited edition luxury clothing, shoes & accessories for both men and women.
Gresham’s eye-catching creations have brought fashion industry recognition and an ever-growing army of customers attracted by his signature combination of quality garments with a quirky twist.
Gresham’s clients are often every bit as colourful in character as the clothing. The Gresham Blake brand is well endorsed, and can be regularly seen in the public eye with high profile clients including Ray Winstone, Steve Coogan, Jimmy Page, Plan B and Norman Cook (aka FatBoy Slim); featuring on the national news most nights with David Dimbleby and Krishnan Guru Murthy keen advocates. The brand is particularly well known for loud custom prints and fancy jacquard silks.
Despite the typical brand embellishments found in Blake’s ready to wear collection, he will dispense with some of the edgier details if the client wants a more understated option. “Tailoring is a personal business,” he says. “You have to psychologically weigh up the customer and listen to them, rather than tell them what they want. We don’t instil a house style.”
THE GRESHAM BLAKE BOOK
The Gresham Blake Book is a showcase of Gresham’s work; a visual feast of inspirational people and personalities. First launched in 2016 (at an event hosted by friend and client Steve Coogan) the latest issue firmly marks Gresham’s place on the London gentlemen’s tailoring scene.
LC had the opportunity to produce the latest Gresham Blake Book and we were determined to deliver something truly special. “As an admirer and client myself, I was keen to ensure the book did justice to the passion, design and creative brilliance of Gresham Blake’s work” enthused LC’s Greig Scott. The book focusses on the clients themselves, all resplendant in Gresham’s custom creations of their own, telling their life story and what makes these clothes so important for them.
In fact, all of the bespoke and ready-to-wear garments worn in this book are made exclusively by Gresham Blake. “Historically, the book was punchy, and showed the character of the clients really well. We all wanted to maintain the edgy feel of previous books, but the challenge was to bring through the colour, detail and intricacy of the products too” explains Greig.
To achieve this, LC’s pre-media team painstakingly reviewed and adjusted every page of artwork to achieve the right balance and feel… and our print team poured themselves over every stage of the print process, living and breathing every page as they came off the presses. The book was finished beautifully, with a case-bound cover with gold foiling that conveys the Gresham Blake quality and attention to detail.
“We’re really proud of the result, it is a highly visual custom book, which is a genuine joy to dip in and immerse yourself in the fantastic design and creativity – the clients look terrific – and the attention given to the artwork means you can almost ‘feel’ the products – it really zings. The book does justice to Gresham’s work and the personality of the clients.” adds Greig.
